During the hotter months our bees rely on a steady supply of fresh water, just as much as they rely on nectar and pollen. We are incredibly fortunate that the apiary sits close to a natural water source, giving the bees everything they need without us having to provide artificial alternatives.
In summer the bees can often be seen flying back and forth between the hives and the water’s edge. They collect tiny droplets which are used to cool the hive and regulate the temperature inside. This natural cooling system is vital when the weather reaches its warmest, and having a clean water supply nearby helps the colony stay healthy and productive.
One of the photos show the peaceful spot where the bees drink, with the hives visible in the background. It is a lovely reminder of how closely bees work with their environment and how important it is to place hives where nature can support them.
By choosing a site with natural forage and natural water we give the bees the best chance to thrive throughout the summer season.
